Fraud victims
Victim of a scam or financial fraud
Online investment, romance and crypto scams cause serious harm. Here is what to do now, what a lawyer can and cannot do — and how to avoid being targeted a second time.
First steps — today
-
Stop all payments
Do not send any more money, even if you are told it is needed to “unlock” or “withdraw” your funds.
-
Contact your bank
Report the fraud immediately and ask whether the transfer can be stopped or recalled.
-
Keep every piece of evidence
Screenshots of conversations, website addresses, account and wallet numbers, transfer receipts, emails, phone numbers, dates and amounts.
-
File a complaint
Report the fraud to the police in the country where you live and, where relevant, in Cambodia.
What a lawyer can do
- Assess your situation and the legal avenues available in Cambodia
- Help you file a complaint and join the proceedings as a civil party
- Request measures concerning accounts and assets identified in Cambodia
- Communicate with banks and the competent authorities on your behalf
- Work with your lawyer in your own country if you live abroad
What no honest lawyer can promise
- To guarantee that your money will be recovered
- To “trace and recover” funds in a few days for a fixed fee
- To have special access to CAFIU, the police or the courts
